This weekend, Curve’s sales and events guru and long distance specialist, April is taking part in a 1200km road Audax event known within the Australian Audax community as the SM1200.
The route connects Australia’s two biggest cities, Sydney and Melbourne. In keeping with the Audax rules for this distance, the time limit for those taking on this challenge is a mere 90 hours; a time that April hopes she will comfortably achieve. This event is supported and most riders will make use of the bag drop facilities. However, April will be carrying everything she needs, using the SM1200 as a shake down ride before her first Transcontinental Race in July!

Multiple hand positions, snack storage & tactical navigation
The cockpit setup is one that is very thought out. Curve Carbon Walmer bars and VAP Aero Butterfly bars give April plenty of space to have all the amenities she needs to hand when on the road. With the double Feedbags keeping any needed snacks in easy reach, a nifty dynamo light switch taped to the stem, and multiple computer options with her trusty Garmin along with a Quadlock mount for easy phone navigation and the K-Lite front light mounted out front for the best possible visibility.

Ultra tyre of choice
After lots of experimentation, April settled on the Pirelli P-Zero Race TLR as the tire of choice. The wider tyre clearance of the Ultra, and the new trend of tyres getting wider and wider (comfier and comfier), this seemed like a great opportunity to test out this fast rolling endurance tyre. Follow along for April’s review after the ride!

Lots of climbing means little gears!
April will be running a SRAM Force AXS groupset with 43/30 chainrings and a 10/36 cassette, recently down-sided chainrings as a test ahead of the mountainous TCR route. With check points including the Col de Tourmalet, this bike is ready to take on some serious climbing!
