Route Description
All riders are sure to get some exercise and a taste of adventure. Be prepared for some solid climbs, a mixed bag of surfaces - road, rocks & everything in between. No need to get your feet wet; there's ferry fun instead.
For the uninitiated, be warned that Convicts and Saints routes are not champagne gravel, they're a chance to get out of your comfort zone and enjoy the more adventurous side of cycling in a supportive environment.
If you're not in the market for Convicts or Saints, the Sunday offerings are notably smoother. We look forward to cruising along the river with you!
What you need to do, to make sure you have a good time
Pack plenty of snacks & water as it’s possible that these routes will take a bit longer than you expect.
We highly recommend robust tyres, set up tubeless.
Download the route files shared above.
Please be self-sufficient and remember that this is a fun social ride - not a race in any way, shape or form. While some of the Curve squad will be riding, there is no formal organisation; it will just be like you're out riding with your mates - nothing more.

GravNL ODYSSEY

EVENT INFO
WHEN: 3-4th May
WHERE: Studio INFMS
WHAT BIKE: Gravel bike with a minimum 35mm tyre, but as usual Curve recommend the wider the better!
TERRAIN: Mixed terrain. Expect sealed, unsealed, bike paths and probably some mud!
ROUTE FILE: FINAL GPX WILL BE SENT TO RIDERS BEFORE EVENT
COST: FREE! But tickets are REQUIRED and can be purchased HERE
The spirit of the GravNL Odyssey is that it’s a route and targeted finish time. It gives everyone something to aim for and an excuse to go out, ride their bike, have fun, live an adventure, make friends and discover new places.
It's not an event in the traditional sense…If you're expecting aid stations, any kind of organization or support then you will be very disappointed! The route is simply intended to be a bit of fun. An inclusive ride with the unique opportunity to all gather at the end to share stories from the road and meet new friends.
It is a 520km mixed terrain adventure divided in four sections. Starting from Studio INFMS and winding through the Veluwe area, it makes its way to the vibrant Amsterdam city center en route to the coast, it’s famous dunes and bike paths. It veers inland again to bucolic Leiden and into the absolute flatland of the Polders, where water is more present than land.
After a short ferry crossing across the Hollands Diep river (7AM-MIDNIGHT) and a visit to Breda, it enters the woods again and meanders along the Belgian border, crossing into beer and chocolate land and some of its National park to finally finish in Maastricht, a charming old town tucked at the cross-over of three countries (Netherlands, Belgium and Germany).
Along the way you’ll pass by a selection of Curve dealers, including StudioINFMS, WHEELRUNNER, RAAS, KAMU and of course finishing at OFF_THE_MAP.
What will I find at each dealer?
They are NOT checkpoints or aid stations! Riders will need to be completely self-sufficient
If you pass there during opening hours come in and say G'day! They will greatly appreciate your visit and being bike shops they will be able to assist you if mechanical support is needed. If you arrive outside of regular opening hours, sorry but, you won’t be able to visit some of the best bike shops on the continent. Just keep on rolling…
As they’re also cafes, you will be able to get your favorite brew at Studio Infms at the start and Kamu in Breda is a good option for a big feed on Sunday (10:00-17:00).
When do I start?
That is something only you can work out, with the objective of being on time in Maastricht for Sunday night! Starting Friday afternoon will get you plenty of time to enjoy the full route and have two good nights of sleep. Starting Saturday morning is probably what most people will do but that means bigger days on the saddle and less hours of rest! We will be at the start all day Friday and will start riding ourselves Saturday at 9am for those wanting to join!
Please read if you plan to attend!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Is the GravNL Odyssey a Race?
The answer is NO. If people want to push themselves to see how fast they can ride it and whether that speed is faster than their friends, they’re welcome to. If you want to bikepack it in one, two, three, four, or fourteen days, make it a friends and family trip, that’s perfect too!
It doesn’t matter if you’ve ridden all the ultra races on the calendar or never tried a multiday adventure, let’s all have fun out there!
Do I have to ride it all?
There are many ways to jump on or off this route, to make it just the right amount of adventure for you! Do you want to start earlier and take your time to ride it? Good on ya! Not feeling like riding 500km but still wanting to be part of the fun?
Starting at Wheelrunner, Raas or Kamu are good options. If you want to ride extra and ride from home, that works too! Make it your own adventure!
The GravNL Odyssey will be good early season training for the long distance racers or the perfect challenge for those willing to familiarize themselves with longer distance riding and the excitement that comes with it.
Where do I sleep ?
With many camp sites and towns on the route, finding a place to sleep on the go shouldn’t be an issue. If you’re confident in calculating how long things might take you and the distances you can manage each day, you can book them in advance with some careful planning. It’s best to be conservative with the distances you’re planning to cover each day. In the event of adverse weather, mechanicals or with the added amount of faffing that can occur when the kilometers accumulate, things can take longer than you think!
What do I need to take?
This will depend on your approach to the ride. We’ve compiled a packing list for flashpacking that can be found on the Curve website HERE. If you’re camping along the way, then simply add your sleeping kit to this. The gear you pack will depend on how much comfort you’re in the market for. If you need a hand working out how to pack your kit onto your bike, have a chat with our amazing Curve dealers or get in touch with us!
A few notes about essential items:
Lighting : Maybe you’re not planning on riding in the dark, but what if things take longer than you think? Pack lights that make daylight to ensure it’s much less scary when riding at night in the woods! Bring a good rear light for those road sections too.
Repair : tubeless repair kit, small sealant bottle, spare tube, puncture repair kit, pump (check that it still works), chain quick-links, and multi-tool (with chain breaker).
Clothing : take clothing suitable for the weather conditions; arm warmers and leg warmers if needed, and wet weather gear. Fatigue impacts your body’s ability to regulate temperature and you can waste a lot of energy trying to stay warm. It’s good to have a warm vest or jacket in your pack just in case.
Bags: Make sure you have sufficient storage on your bike for what you need to carry and some spare space so that it’s easy to get things back where they came from when you’re tired. Standard bikepacking bags are a good choice. A saddle pack is a smart option and can fit a lot of stuff. Feed bags are a great option for carrying food in a way that's readily accessible on the bike.
What do I do when I’m done in Maastricht ?
Wherever you are going home to, there are many train options available in Maastricht and bikes are welcomed on board for a small fee (Dutch, Belgian and German trains). If you want to stay for the night, there are plenty of options in town, hotels, hostels, B&B, camping, etc.
The Green Elephant Hostel is a good cycling friendly option!
Have a question that hasn’t been answered?? Feel free to reach out!
Go to one of our Dutch dealers or send it through in an email to tom@curvecycling.com.
Info night will be held at Wheelrunner (Amsterdam) in April, exact date to be confirmed.
Like all Curve events, please sign our waiver before attending! It can be found HERE

Dirty Valda Bikepacking Quest

EVENT INFORMATION
When: Saturday 6th Sept @ 6:22am
Start: Melbourne Town Hall
Fin: Whippets Workshop, Adelaide
Route: HERE
What bike: A gravel/adventure/bikepacking bike! It is possible to ride the route with 40mm off-road tyres but it won't be very comfortable. A bigger tyre (think 2.1") will help on the corrugated and sandy sections.
Who: Experienced bike packers and first timers looking for a challenge. Be prepared and get ready for an awesome adventure!
FAQs: All the answers you need are HERE!
Please read if you plan to attend!
The route will be finalised in August 2025.
Curve will run the Dirty Valda as a spirited social ride starting on Sat 6 Sep 2025 @ 6:22am. Melbourne Town Hall, the route finishes at Whippets Workshop in Stepney, South Australia.
The route is likely to be very similar to the 2024 edition, any changes will be in response to road works/ changed traffic conditions close to the start of the route.
A MAProgress page will be created for some 'dot watching' fun, for those who want to use a tracking device.
Expect a bit of everything on this course, lots of riding, some hiking, a taste of singletrack, black top, sand, big towns and tiny ones, forests, rivers, plains and climbs. Some basic logistics information has been provided to assist your planning. The distances between resupply points and water may look manageable, but careful planning and preparation will be required; opening times are not always reliable, some of the terrain may take longer than expected, especially in adverse weather.
Take some mates or leave everyone in your dust, ride the lot or jump on for part of it, then hop on a train. Tent, bivvy, motels or other, this adventure is yours to make of it what you will.
Unless you're a fan of phrases like 'would have', 'could have' and 'should have', this is the moment to have a go at a bike packing trip.
There is no support offered of any kind, all riders must be self-sufficient.
To get amongst the action on Curve events please read and complete the registration and waiver on the Curve Cycling website: curvecycling.com/pages/ride-event-need-to-know?_pos=1&_sid=c8af5d6f6&_ss=r
The Border Run XL

EVENT INFO
When: 26th Sept 2025
Ride info: 397km 5627vm
Route: HERE
Start: Melbourne GPO 4:30am
Fin: Albury NSW Border Sign
Surface: Mixed Terrain but mostly gravel
What bike: Gravel bike with minimum 40mm tires, as always we recommend robust tyres set up tubeless. Only go narrower if you're a hell cat!
What is The Border Run?
Same Plan. New Border.
How fast can you get from your bed to the border by bike? In 2024, around the March equinox we hosted the inaugural Border Run, a fast and flat blast to the border. For the September Equinox we’re going bigger, we are going XL!! Curve will run the Border Run XL as a spirited social ride starting on Fri 26 Sep 2025. Roll out will be at 4:30am from the old Melbourne GPO.
If that time and date don’t work for you, do it whenever you can make it happen. Go on! Get off the couch and have a crack! This one is a tougher ride than the Border Run; it’s longer and has more climbing.Like many historic overlander missions, this ride will depart from Melbourne’s original GPO. Expect some bike paths on the way out of town, then a mix of sealed and unsealed roads heading north. Please take it easy on the bike paths on the way out of town.
Ride it all in one hit if you dare! Ride it over two, three, four or twenty days. See how fast you can ride it, flashpack it, bikepack it, leave your bike at home and run it. Make your own rules. Slap the border sign to finish your ride across the state! The ride finishes at the Vic-NSW border on Gateway Island at the Welcome to NSW sign. Your ride is complete once you tap the “Welcome to New South Wales” sign and take a finisher photo.
Need help planning your ride?
For a full breakdown check out this BLOG
There are plenty of options for indoor accommodation or camping on the way to Albury. The route deliberately has good resupply options too. The route passes through Kinglake (70 km), Alexandra (158 km), Bonnie Doon (194 km), Swanpool (243 km), Benalla (270 km) and Wangaratta (318 km).
If you're an uncontrollable hellcat, ride it all in one hit! Some may want two and three day options. Here are some itineraries ranging from BOLD to more civilised that can be flashpacked (indoor accommodation to cut down on what you need to take).
For a 2-day mission, with a BIG first day, try this:
Day 1: Melbourne to Benalla (270 km). This gets most of the climbing out of the way.
Day 2: Benalla to Albury (127 km). Recovery ride!
For a 2-day mission, with a more even split, try this:
Day 1: Melbourne to Bonnie Doon (194 km)
Day 2: Boonie Doon to Albury (203 km). Longer but easier than day 1 with less climbing.
For a 3-day graventure stay in Alexandra and Benalla:
Day 1: Melbourne to Alexandra (158 km)
Day 2: Alexandra to Benalla (112 km)
Day 3: Benalla to Albury (127 km)
