FAQs

I want to run the biggest tyres possible. How big can I go?

We have designed version 4 of the GXR to work well with tyre sizes around 700c x 40mm or 27.5" x 2.1". In 700c mode you can go as wide as 50 mm tyres (or 2.0”). Note that you can go even wider on the front, with the Ride 415 VGM fork having clearance for up to 29 x 2.4” tyres for a super wild reverse-mullet set up!

We like to run Vittoria Mezcal in the 27.5" x 2.1" size. Anything larger than that may introduce poor chainstay clearance or even some rubbing. This is 100% normal when going to the largest tyre size that will physically fit in the frame.

Note also that there are other factors that affect the ultimate width of the tyre, such as internal rim width and tyre tread pattern. Do not just go by the tyre label.

Rider discretion is advised.

I want to attach bags. What will it do to the frame finish?

Curve's custom painted titanium frames are finished with high-quality and durable paint. Like all paint work, it will be adversely affected by rubbing from bike bags, rock strikes, chain slap, etc. If you want to keep your paint in the best possible condition, we recommend using a protective film, especially in the high-wear areas where bag straps are in direct contact with the frame.

Can I use a rack?

With a wide range of frame and fork-mounted rack systems on the market, and with more appearing every week, it is important to understand which rack systems are compatible with your Curve frame and fork, and how to mount them correctly in order to ensure safe riding, avoid damage and voiding your warranty.

Before mounting a rack, we strongly recommend you get in touch with us to confirm compatibility and the correct mounting procedure. This will minimise the risk of injury, product damage and voiding your warranty. Your local Curve dealer, or the team at Curve HQ, can also help you select a rack system and mount it to your bike for you.

Meet the latest GXR a.k.a. Kevin

One of the first gravel-specific bikes released, the Curve GXR model has been around since well before gravel became cool. Now, with wider tyre clearance, improved mounting options and UDH compatibility, the latest version of our Swiss Army Knife of bikes is more versatile than ever.

We have been ahead of the Curve when it comes to gravel, and the GXR has years of adventure cycling experience woven into its DNA. The Curve titanium GXR has been tested heavily on gravel adventures worldwide. Across South America, New Zealand, Switzerland, Swaziland, and more, the Curve squad has traversed the globe on this magnificent bicycle.

Originally a playful jab at the bike industry's bike naming terminologies, the name “Kevin” soon caught on, and we couldn’t resist making it official. Kevin, the reliable Aussie all-rounder, is here to stay as a permanent nickname for our beloved GXR.

  • Wide Tyre Clearance

The GXR has been designed with gravel cycling versatility in mind. While the GXR geometry is optimised for 700c x 44mm tyres, you can go as wide as 50 mm tyres on 700c wheels. In 700c mode with narrower tyre options, Kevin is ready for fast gravel missions, but you’ll be surprised how capable Kevin is on chunkier terrain with a 50 mm tyre. With 650b (27.5”) wheels you can move into gravel-plus territory with 2.2” tyres which offer plenty of comfort for the most rugged gravel adventures. Curve has the above wheel options in carbon and aluminium available and ready for complete Kevin builds.

  • Ready for Adventure

Our Ride 415 VGM fork has taken load carrying to the next level, with a 8 kg rating on each fork leg. That’s a total carrying capacity of 16 kg. Featuring three cleverly designed mounts on each fork leg, the Ride 415 VGM fork can accommodate anything from extra water bottles, our Rocket Pooches, or other micro-pannier or fork-specific bags.

While we favour 1x drivetrains, Kevin can be set up with a 2x drivetrain without hassle. With SRAM UDH compatible dropouts, Kevin is able to handle the widest range of groupset options currently available.

  • More Mounting Points

The Curve Kevin comes equipped with rear rack mounts, fender mounts, 3 x bidon mounts, and top tube “bento mounts”. With extra tyre clearance, and a comparatively long wheelbase for the gravel genre which offers a more stable platform, Kevin is ready for epic day rides or multi-day bikepacking adventures, not just smooth gravel cruising.

There is ample room for bikepacking bags on all frameset sizes. To make sure current, prospective or custom bagging fits your frame size please see our Bagmaker Drawing page.

When we first met, over three years ago, I directly knew that you weren't like the other bikes. Behind your sober and classy titanium façade was hiding enormous potential...

i love it!

I have been the proud owner of Kevin (GXR4) since August.
Just a few days ago, I switched Kevin to winter set-up. Sram Eagle 38x52, so I can climb the steep mountains of the Alps with skis and load.

In summer, Kevin is fast on asphalt with 42x10 and 28’ slicks and on gravel with 650b tyres.

In Germany, the name Kevin is not very popular, but that is wrong for this bike.
Kevin is an absolute all-rounder who shows his strengths on long distances and bikepacking. I love it!

Thanks for the great support.

2 Kevins in one family

We are the proud owners of two Kevins one a blue Kevin of steel with 11 speed Sram and the other a Ti Kevin with 12 speed Sram AXS E-Tap. I cannot fault either bike and the Ti Kevin with Sram AXS 12 speed paired up to a 40 tooth crank and 10-52 cassette is the ultimate do anything bike, Two wheel sets one 700C running 32mm Conti GP 5000 and 10-42 cassette for the road, 700c Curve Gravel wheel set with 40mm Gravel Kings for fast gravel and 650B and 2.1" Maxxis for single track and steep goodness covers everything Im likely to ever need.

This bike can do anything

Look, I only went into Curve HQ to buy some wheels. Instead, I came home with Kevin (Rhino is very convincing) and it is fair to say he has changed my life.

I’ve raced the Pan Celtic, crossed New Zealand, numerous grand fondos on road and gravel, commuted to work, hit the MTB trails, been bikepacking - all on this incredibly versatile bike. I have no doubt that we have many more adventures to come.

On top of that, you get amazing service from the Curve crew who have built an amazing and inclusive community. These guys truly live their values, and are always there to help with any questions and advice you might need.

Best bike ever

I’ve had Kev for over 5 years now and it’s simply the best bike ever.

Whether it’s racing cyclocross, smashing out high country road climbs, endless gravel, loaded bike packing, shredding gnarly single track, or commuting to work, this is the best bike ever. Just change the tyres to suit the activity, or do what I did recently and get the second wheel set with a dynamo hub.

Add in a custom paint job and it’s the dream bike for every occasion.

Shout out to the Curve crew too who are all very friendly and attentive to endless questions about all things bikes and adventures.

A friend for life.

Kev has been such a reliable ride. He can get rowdy when you put his party shoes on, he can go fast when fling skinny tyres on or he can help you ride off into the sunset in supreme style and comfort.

Kev really is a bike for life and with each passing year I get to know him even better.
