From touching down in Vinh, the adventure (and the rain) started thick and fast for the Garbage Bag Boys as they departed for their journey around the world. But, nothing was going to dampen their spirits as they set off towards the Laos border.

The plan had been to cross into Laos, and spend the first three weeks touring the dense forest and mountainous terrain of this beautifully untouched country. However as most adventures do, they never follow the plan you had written down at the start. Conquering the steep climbs that lead up to the border, the first complication, despite online appearing you could purchase a visa at the border, the boys soon found out that wasn’t the case. So a quick change of plan was on the cards.

Turning around, out of the clouds and heading off the beaten track, with the new destination being Hanoi. The roads soon turned unpaved. With Vietnam’s cycle paths keeping the boys on their toes, with sudden changes to flooded trails and trips through the rice fields proved to be tough going. Turning off the highway, slightly sketchy bike paths soon become remote forests. You might have seen them bush whacking and hike-a-biking themselves through thick forests with their pair of mud clogged GMX+s. Choosing to forge forward, the idea of using the drone to scout out the route ahead led the boys to their escape and they got the joys of a descent into the next town.

Making the most of a day off the bike in Ninh Binh, piling up on the local cuisine of banh mi’s and bao buns, and taking the chance to give the bikes a more thorough once over. The boys are excited to arrive in Hanoi to restock up on supplies before heading north towards the famous Ha Giang Loop.
