FAQs

Check HERE for further info regarding custom paint, bike set up and more.

I want to run the biggest tyres possible. How big can I go?

We have designed the GXR and (Kevin of Steel) to work well with tyre sizes around 700c x 40mm or 650b x 50mm (27.5" x 2.0").
We like to run Vittoria Mezcal in the 27.5" x 2.1" size. Anything larger than that may introduce poor chainstay clearance or even some rubbing. This is 100% normal when going to the largest tyre size that will physically fit in the frame.

Note also that there are other factors that affect the ultimate width of the tyre, such as internal rim width and tyre tread pattern. Do not just go by the tyre label.

Rider discretion is advised.

I want to attach bags. What will it do to the frame finish? Curve's steel frames are finished with high-quality and durable paint, but the paint is not unaffected by rubbing from bike bags or rock strikes etc.
If you want to keep your paint looking pristine, we recommend that you use some kind of protective film - especially in the high-wear areas where bag straps are in direct contact with the frame.

Stock Ti frames are not painted, but bag rub will affect the surface finish. The lighter, brushed, finish can be refreshed using a fine abrasive pad, but the darker blasted finish can only be refinished by media blasting. To keep your Ti frame looking pristine, we recommend using protective film.

Kevin of Steel is Back

Our favourite steel gravel bike is back with a new look. Introducing the mesmerising Ninja Mermaid colourway. This extraordinary hue is the ultimate chameleon, inspired by the depths of the ocean and the magic of legendary ninjas and mermaids.

Your ride will never be the same again.

At first glance, the Ninja Mermaid may appear almost black, cloaking Kev in a veil of mystery. But don't be fooled, for when the sun's golden rays dance upon the frame, a breathtaking transformation occurs. Suddenly, your Kevin of Steel glistens with an explosion of emerald green sparkles, shimmering like a treasure trove hidden beneath the waves. The iridescent sparkles reflect the sunlight like a thousand tiny mirrors, each casting its own spell, creating an ever-changing, dynamic visual symphony. You'll feel like you're gliding through an aquatic wonderland as you enter gravel paradise.

Ninja Mermaid is not just another paint finish; it's an experience that will transport you and your Kevin of Steel to a world of enchantment and adventure. Whether you're navigating urban jungles or tackling remote trails, this captivating hue will leave you and everyone you pass absolutely spellbound.

  • Italian Steel

The main frame triangle is comprised of Columbus Zona Italian-made double-butted tubing. Zona allows for the ideal compromise between weight, strength and life of the frame.

  • Two Bikes In One

The Ride 400 fork has clearance for wheel options based on your riding style. For example, Kevin can run either 700c wheels with 32–45 mm tyres, best suited for commuting, gravel, and cyclocross, or if you’re looking to tackle some rougher terrain with more traction, use 650b (27.5”) wheels fitted with 1.8–2.2” tyres*. Curve has the above wheel options in both carbon and aluminum available.

    * See FAQ
  • No Weird Flex

The custom 4130 steel yoke design allows Kevin to run some super wide gravel tyres in two wheel sizes, and also stiffens the BB area to avoid excessive frame flex under load.

  • Ready for Adventure

Our Ride 400 fork, originally titled GXR fork, was built to complement the Kevin of Steel and titanium GXR frameset. Featuring 3 x 12 mm M5 mounting points on each blade, the Ride 400 fork can accommodate anything from extra water bottles, our Rocket Pooches, or any other micro pannier or fork-specific bag.

There is ample room for bikepacking bags on all frameset sizes. To make sure current, prospective or custom bagging fits your frame size please see our Bagmaker Drawing page.

  • Want to Carry More?

With a range of different bike racks on the market, it is important to understand what products work with your Curve frame, and to mount them correctly. Before you do this yourself, we strongly recommend you get in touch with us regarding compatibility and best practices. Or we can install for you at Curve HQ.

Great Bike

I’ve had my KoS Ninja Mermaid for almost 5 months. Currently I’m more-or-less a full time traveller and Kevin is my travelling companion and sits, covered, on the back of my 4WD camper. Recently, I spent some time in Silverton (20km north west of Broken Hill). The photo is taken from the lookout on Wilangee Rd with the Mundi Mundi Plain in the background - Kevin (and me) in our happy place :-).
I rode out along the plain for 30 or so kms before turning around - pure bliss. A bit of the black stuff, with some gravel and loose dirt, just what Kev is made for.

So far Kevin and I have been on one bikepacking trip. It was a version of the Central West Cycle Trail. The bike was loaded up with gear (for a 3 day trip) and lots of water (it was hot!); no problems whatsoever. It was stable and I still felt confident on the bike with the extra weight. The trip included everything from highway sections ,to gravel roads, to narrow sandy forest tracks. The bike was brilliant.

The frame, geometry, Eagle ASX groupset, wide 650b tyres and the Walmer bar come together as a package that I just love! So versatile, agile and comfortable. No matter what part of the country I’m in, or where a ride may take me I know the bike will be fun, comfortable, and reliable.

The more I ride this bike the more I want to ride!

most good looking bike out there

I just received my Kevin in the mail. It was the last in cream. It's a work of art down to the last details. Both in form and function. I live in Colorado USA and the biked arrive at my house safe and sound and the team at curve was awesome every step of the way. The bike arrived quickly. I did a lot of shopping around and was so happy to find this bike. I can't wait to hit the dirt roads with my new pal the Kevin.

Race, Ride, Seek ... a good credo!

The steel frame is beautifully finished. Even the weld seams around the bottom bracket are well done. This gives the bike a very clean look. The paintwork itself is gorgeous and varies between deep sea and starry night, depending on the light.
The handling on the road is smooth and stable. Off-road is where it really gets fun. The bike is surprisingly agile and "playful" ... Pure joy. The steel frame offers super self-damping. The handlebars and the many hand positions they offer are outstanding. Especially the control in the drops is brilliant! My new favourite position on descents: lots of control. The SRAM Apex 1x12 (mech.) shifts cleanly and precisely. At first I was worried about the number of gears. But the 10-52 cassette takes you up and down everywhere. Thanks to the massive tyre clearance, even muddy tracks are no problem and accumulating dirt doesn't get in the way and grind. The many mounts on the frame allow for various equipment and increase the versatility of this bike.
Last but not least: praise for the communication (via email) across time zones and continents! I was able to contact you at any time with questions and uncertainties and you responded faster than some local authorities.
Vielen Dank!

Kevin Heaven

I've had my Kevin of Steel for almost 5 years now so I reckon I'm overdue a review. Always up for anything, Kevin is the enabler of adventures and has never complained once. Kevin is my go to guy for commuting, errands, all day gravel loops and trips to the pub. Loaded up or in race mode this bike is sturdy as heck yet somehow zippy and turning heads wherever we go. Rolling out for a ride with Kev still makes me smile every time, I reckon we'll be friends 4eva.

Kevin

I have ridden so many bikes, and just can’t get over how comfortable and well made my Kevin is. I’ve used my Kevin of steel for commuting, bike packing, gravel rides and even bunch road rides with my local group.

I love my Kev so much that I had to pull the trigger on a second frameset in camel cruiser, that I will build up to be my forever bike.

I can never go back to carbon or aluminium frames
